The Centre of Foundation OBRAS is in the South-East of Portugal (see this page for a map). Artists and scientists with (emerging) professional standing are eligible for residence. Disciplines include visual arts, architecture, music, film/video, writing, dance, drama and science.
Since 2004, OBRAS-Portugal received around 750 artists in residence from around 54 countries. Have a look at this page for an impression of their projects. The most recent ones are in the newsletter.

OBRAS-Portugal has seven apartments, two cottages, five studios ranging in size from 25 to 200 m2, some music instruments (including piano) and a swimming pool.
It can host up to 10 artists at the same time, but we generally accept around 6. High priority for us is to give you all privacy and working conditions for a fruitful residency.
The center concentrates residencies in April-June and August-October. In other months the center is only open for specific projects.

We also organize, together with the artist, every year some exhibitions, concerts, performances and open studios. For this we co-operate with museums and other cultural organizations in the region. Have a look on "past and upcoming events".

More information is on "an impression of apartments and studios" , "info on prices and more" and on  "application form".
In case you are interested in more details on thre Center and its surroundings: have a look at the history of the house, the surrounding nature, megalithic monuments and local climate.

An obvious highlight is marble, both for sculpting and visiting the active and abandoned quarries in the region. See the marble pages for sites and examples of projects by residents.
