OBRAS-Portugal; an introduction

The Centre of Foundation OBRAS is in the South-East of Portugal (see this page for a map and the location).

Since 2004, OBRAS-Portugal received around 600 artists in residence from around 50 countries. Have a look at this page for their names and projects . The most recent ones are in the newsletter.

OBRAS-Portugal has seven apartments, two cottages and five studios. Have a look on this page for an impression. More information, including prices, are on this page. And an application form is here.

For if you are interested: have a look at the history of the house, the surrounding nature, megalithic monuments in the region and the local climate.

An obvious highlight is marble, both for sculpting and visiting the active and abandoned quarries.

Although general aim of foundation OBRAS is to host residents (providing all space, service, peace and hospitality necessary for effective working) we also organise every year some exhibitions, concerts, performances and open studios. For the events we co-operate with museums and other cultural organisations in the region. Have a look on this page for past and upcoming events.
