Apartments, studios and other places to work

OBRAS Portugal is a stone building of 200 years old; a typical Portuguese Monte. It overlooks a savanna-alike landscape with a medieval fortress on the horizon. OBRAS-Portugal consists of a main house with several apartments and work spaces, two cottages, four artists’ studios, some open-air working places and a swimming pool. The surrounding nature gives infinitive options for working, walking and relaxing. This pages gives an impression of the buildings.
The Casa Principal (the main house) has seven apartments, a music room and a meeting room.

Each apartment has a living room (5x5m) with two beds, a working table, chairs, a little kitchen with cooking utensils, a bathroom and a terrace with garden furniture.

The Music Room has a piano, two guitars, a set of recorders and flutes, a cajon and some other percussion instruments. There are music books (mainly for piano and classical music) and a CD collection. The room can be used for studying, rehearsals and living room concerts.

In addition there are two cottages with furniture and facilities similar to the apartments in the main house  but with more space.

Casa Miradouro (6x9m) is located some 50 meters from the Casa Principal. It has a great view in all directions and terraces on three sides. It has a living room, bedroom, kitchen and bathroom. Its living room is big enough to separate a part as a working studio.

Casa Vicente
is located next to the Casa Principal. It has two terraces, on facing the Casa Principal and the other overlooking a valley. It has three rooms of each 5x5m, a kitchen and bathroom. One or two rooms can be converted into a studio.

Several working studios are available. These are basically empty spaces which can be furnished with tables, easels and spot lights according of the wishes of the artist. There are some tools, paint, brushes and other artist supplies available. But for to be sure about quality and quantity better bring your own material or order it.
The Big Hall (25x10 m) is especially useful for performances and big installations
Studio Branco (5x10 m)
Studio Rossio (6x10 m)

Studio in Casa Principal
. Sometimes we empty an apartment and convert it to a working studio (5x5 m).

The Patio is a cool place to work, but often used for presentations.

Swimming pool

The Pergola (3.5 x 8 m) is a good place, for instance for working with marble: you work outside in the shadow with a bit of wind.
Picture

A tiled Circular Square of 15m in diameter is behind the big hall. It is always partly in the shadow and partly in the sun. It can used among others for rehearsals and artists´ talks.

The Excavation Site is a location with a 6000 years´ history. We use it once in a while for artist talks, installations and social meetings.

An abandoned railway station is on a 20 minutes’ walk from the OBRAS buildings. It is sometimes used for site specific happenings, photo shoots or making murals.
A Ruin of a Water Mill is also a 20 minutes’ walk from the OBRAS buildings, but even more isolated and in the middle of nature.

Working outside is possible nearly always and everywhere. In the surrounding nature you can be completely on your own.
