our new-normal in times of COVID
update 12 September 2021
Portugal is experiencing a third covid wave: this one is small and largely limited to the touristic South and North. OBRAS is in the middle part at the Eastern border. There, it is relatively clean. More-over, this third wave seems to fade away: see the graph above. The r-value is now 0.9.
On 12 September the obligation has been lifted to use a mask in the street.
It would not be honest of us to say that there is zero risk.
When traveling by air you will only encounter vaccinated or negative-tested passengers and personnel (but vaccinations and tests do not give 100% guarantee). For the bus trip from Lisbon to Estremoz masks are mandatory.
Once you have arrived at OBRAS the risks are very low. You live in a private apartment in the middle of nature and your fellow residents are all vaccinated or tested negative. If you have hesitations with shopping you can give us your shopping list.
The new-normal will be that shared dinners and artist talks will be outside. Until the pandemic is over we will not organize open studios.
Museums have re-opened, but there are still few cultural events in the region. All is under a strict covid-regime.
In summary: we concluded that the risk to get infected during traveling and your residency is sufficiently low to start up the residency program. But it can only be you to decide that the risk is low enough for you.
We have our fingers crossed that this all will soon be completely over. Until then: stay safe.
Also Holland is recovering from COVID. The majority is vaccinated and restrictions are gradually lifted.
General rule in public spaces is still to apply 1.5 m distance. Wearing face masks and washing hands is advised. Face masks are obligatory in train and bus, in museums and public buildings. Although in shops it is not obligatory to wear a face mask, we advise you to do so.
Most museums are open, although with reservations. Also theaters are gradually reopening, though only for smaller events. In most places you have to show a vaccination passport of negative test result.
Your local host: Josien Jongejan, will wear a face mask when she meets you and expects you to do the same. If possible she will meet you in the garden.
Up to now we were used to organize an artist talk combined with shared dinner. But we until the Covid pandemic is over we think it would be better to refrain from it or do this in the garden.
If you have any symptom that may relate to Covid, Josien will tell you where you can have a test.
