The Centre of Foundation OBRAS is in the South-East of Portugal (see the map).
Artists and scientists with (emerging) professional standing are eligible for residence. Disciplines include visual arts, architecture, music, film/video, writing, dance, drama and science. OBRAS
organizes, together with the residents, every year some cultural events, such as exhibitions, concerts, performances and open studios. For this we co-operate with museums and other cultural organizations in the region.
In 2003-2026, OBRAS received around 1000 artists in residence from around 65 countries. For an impression, you can browse of alphabet, artistic discipline or cultural event.

OBRAS has seven apartments, two cottages, five studios ranging in size from 25 to 200 m2, some music instruments (including piano) and a swimming pool. Check this section for more info on the facilities.
There, you will also find details on the history of the house, the surrounding nature, megalithic monuments and local climate.

An obvious highlight is marble, both for sculpting and visiting the active and abandoned quarries in the region. See the marble pages for sites and examples of projects by residents.

OBRAS can host up to 20 artists at the same time, but we generally accept around 8. High priority for us is to give you all privacy and working conditions for a fruitful residency.

In case you are considering to apply for a residency: visit
www.obrasresidencies.com There, you will find information on prices, conditions and application procedure, and on the new board for OBRAS.
