Cecile Hug
le corps orchestre
In 2014 Cecile Hug had an artistic residence at Foundation OBRAS in Portugal. She started a body of work, of which an artistic installation was presented in France and will soon be exhibited in Spain.
A visual impression of the installation has also been published in a co-production with Jordi Plana Pey. The publication is for sale. This page shows an artistic installation, a statement of the artist and an impression of her residency. |
artist statement on Le corps orchestre (The body orchestra)
A visual and sound installation that I initiated in the context of a residency at the OBRAS Foundation in Portugal in May-June 2014. It was presented at Konventpuntzero in June-July 2014 and will be exhibited in Manresa (Catalonia, Spain) on 12-14 February 2015 (organization: Office of Visual Arts of Central Catalonia. Supported by the Ministry of Culture of Catalonia). “Le corps orchestre” is also published by Les éditions derrière la salle de bains. It shows an artistic installation at Marbrerie (Montreuil, France). Photos in the publication are made by Jordi Plana Pey and Cecile Hug. My installation offers an immersion into the musical world of the body. It is composed of a series of ears. each ear is an invitation to listen. Although all are replicas of my left ear, they are made one by one. Each requires several hours of work, gradually coming to life. They go out of their mold as a shell. Every ear is unique; they vary in color, texture and material. I used several types of plaster, silicone, corn flour, pigments, lace, wool, plants, feathers. Each individual ear produces a unique sound, but all together they create a cloud of random noises. Some ears are arranged in nests, suggesting sound boxes but also referring to hatching and birth. This installation is accompanied by the sound of my own body: heart rate, breathing, arteries noise. A Prelude in C minor of Bach gradually takes part in the sound until its rhythm joins to the sound of my arteries. © Cecile Hug. |
